He is also listed in Infoplease Top 10 Public Intellectuals, where he is at number 7 (1,639 votes). Pope Benedict XVI is ranked 17 (1,046 votes). Physicist Steven Weinberg is at number 47, while Howard Gardner is at number 70. Hawking is not on the list. At number one is linguist, author and activist Noam Chomsky of the US (4,827 votes).
Ninety percent of the people listed there is unknown to me. Birds of the same feathers flock together. Intellectual, clearly I am not.
